Happy Birthday Star

Celebrating the big 1-2!!

Happy, happy dog

Lake Meyerland

After a fun Memorial Day weekend, we got home and that evening it started raining...and it didn't stop.  I was mostly annoyed that the thunder and lightening kept waking me up.  Little did I know, many of our friends were waking up to water in their houses.  Feet of water.  So sad.  The scariest story was our friends talking about walking through chest high deep water at 2 AM to get to a neighbor's house that was built up and dry.  Other neighbors spent the night with the family piled on the tallest bed in the house.

This was basically what our street looked like.  Again, when I first saw the water I was worried about it washing away the new landscaping by the street.  I kind of have survivor's guilt for being absolutely not impacted at all.

Then meer blocks away, this is how high the water was, and the pictures below were taken after the water had gone down quite a bit. It had been up in the houses across the street.

I feel like everyone knows about our neighborhood now. Helicopters circled the neighborhood all day and we were the place to be for the news crews.  Sadly it was not positive news.  But what an amazing community to have rallied like it did!

Memorial Day 2015

Back to the beach!  It had been since Mardi Gras, so we were glad to be back and able to go play at the water.  We got one nice long day at the beach, it had been so long since we'd been that I kind of forgot to reapply sunscreen until it was a bit late, so we all got a little burned.  Then we had a day of mostly rain which gave us an opportunity to get some work done at the house.  And the best part is that we were able to have lots of playtime with our friends the Olanders (a.k.a. Kannon's family) so Addy was on cloud 9!

When I Grow Up...

This was the theme of Addy's spring research project and the future career of the year is librarian.  She did research online and even interviewed a real librarian, none other than Aunt Jean!  The project was topped off by an expo the end of the school year.  Addy did quite an impressive display board, full of librarian fun facts, picture and supplies provided by Aunt Jean.

Eye-catching and informative!

One thing that did not change over the school year was the love for the pink boots!  And that great smile.  Here are some memories from the Owl class

PreK Graduation

It is the end of an era - no more Bertha Alyce.  While it is sad to leave friends and teacher we have known for 8 years, leaving the price tag is not so sad! The prek teachers put on another wonderful graduation ceremony this year.  My favorite thing they did was coordinating the above picture.  They asked the parents to bring in a picture of the kids as babies and then they took these photos.  So precious and what a wonderful memento!
Ella was all smiles in her graduation pic, but she was a little less excited about the graduation ceremony itself.  Apparently standing front and center stage in front of a room full of people is not really her thing.  She stood there and sang all the songs while looking like she might bolt off the stage at any minute! The ceremony was still filled with cuteness, and maybe a few tears from Mom.

Summer Is Here

This was May 26th - pool was still too cold for my taste, but the girls loved it!  Pretty sure this summer there will be more days in the pool vs. not.
